Author Sharmishtha Basu’s world, dreams and hopes.

We write because we want to, there is something inside us that urges us to pick up pen, brush or something else to express our inner expressions.

I too write for that purpose, mainly. Apart from that like every artist I want to make my living through my works, that works as a great inspiration, some evil specters made my dream of becoming a normal career woman impossible but to their misery I discovered a brand new world in blogging, it made me a writer and painter, I love to illustrate my works myself, the entire credit goes to my friends who endlessly encouraged me to write and paint.

Then came the next inspiration from them to get published, well I did, and am hoping that these works will win your hearts and give an unemployed artist a livelihood maybe a permanent place in the world of artists, writers too πŸ˜‰

At present a lot of you know I am busy with my twin ezines Agnishatdal and Agnijaat, one of them contains my works (Agnijaat) the other is a creative collaboration of amazing writers and artists (Agnishatdal), do check them out-

  1. In 1986, A career guidance counselor told me that I should be a writer.
When I told my husband (ex-husband as of 1989) he said, “That’s stupid. What a waste of time that would be! Everyone knows that most writer’s starve to death. And who would want to read what you write anyway….what a joke! “(then he laughed sarcastically).
So I really didn’t pursue writing after that point. Then the internet and blogging came along, so I thought I would give it a try. What a surprise. People are actually reading what I write. He was wrong!.
Can’t go through life trying to make other people happy, that’s for sure. We must be we are, and not a reflection of what others expect us to be. Your writing and illustrations are beautiful Sharmishtha….keep going forward with your work!!

    • You should have listened to her or him, your counselor, I too have ignored when my horoscopes suggested writing or art as a career, now I think if only I had that confidence on my works!

You on the other hand are a very talented writer, I love your works. If only you had started writing in 89! that would have meant 26 years of experience by now! sometimes people nearest to us suck us like blackholes! 😦

Anyway, I think just like me you too believe that it is NEVER TOO LATE!

I will be waiting for your book in amazon.

  2. WOW! This is just the page I need! I’m putting this one in my ‘WordPress Friends’ folder… I will definately take a boo at your gallery for now! I’m on a quest to round up my friends… Since I’ve moved, I haven’t seen you, and was wondering if you hate me 😦
